Welcome to our official website! Here you will learn about the Hispanic-
American Women’s Association (AHAM) and what we do to further both
our culture and education in the Upstate of South Carolina.
As you navigate through the pages you will find cultural highlights, the
winners of our scholarships, and a list of sponsors and those
supporting our cause and making it possible to continue AHAM’s
annual scholarship awards program.
Thank you for visiting and we hope you enjoy your self-guided tour!
The Hispanic-American Women’s Association (AHAM) has been formed with the purpose of uniting the Spanish speaking community of the
Upstate of South Carolina, to organize activities that allow us to enjoy our language, culture and folklore, and to raise money to provide
educational opportunities for students of Hispanic origin through scholarships.
We plan to organize and promote activities that will enable us to share our culture in order to create a better understanding of the Latin
Community in the Upstate of South Carolina and the world.
AHAM’s Scholarship Award Ceremony will be held on May 22, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. in the Auditorium at the University Center of
Greenville at McAlister Square. The scholarship awards are distributed to college-bound Hispanic students, based on the
academic merit, financial need, and community involvement.
The Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations take place during September-October in different institutions throughout the Upstate
SC. During these events, AHAM participates actively by displaying folkloric attire, artistic displays, visual presentations, and
delicious regional dishes from different countries such as North, South, and Central America, Spain and the Caribbean.
The International Gala for Higher Education takes place the 3rd Saturday of October from 6:30 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. This year the Gala
will be on October 16, 2010, at the Carolina First Center in Greenville, SC. The Gala is another fundraising events, where a formal
dinner and dancing unite the community to benefit our Hispanic youth and future leaders.
